Latest News:

July 12

Well, much has happened since the last update!  Klaus Badelt's score to K-19 the Widowmaker will be coming out on July 16 on Hollywood records.  Trevor Rabin's music to Bad Company was released in the form of one short score cue on the commercial album.  The Hans Zimmer page at IMDB has been updated with recording session photos from the Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron soundtrack!  To conclude for this update, check out my updated discography -- lots of new items added.

May 3

Hot damn!  Some clips from Spirit: Stallion of Cimarron have been put up on the official Dreamworks website!  Follow this link, skip the intro (well, only if you want to of course!), then on the bottom left of the page a little box should come up reading track one- if you click on this, you can choose between three other tracks!  In other news, Varese Sarabande will be releasing John Powell's score to The Bourne Identity on June 11.  I might also add that the European (French) release of Klaus Badelt's  The Time Machine has different artwork.

April 27

Sorry for the lack of updates- I've been busy with life.  Anyway, the soundtrack album to Spirit: Stallion of Cimarron will be released on May 14 on A & M.  Currently, this is no indication of how much (if any) score will be available.  Score is co-composed with Steve Jablonsky, with songs performed by Bryan Adams.  Nick Glennie-Smith's score to We Were Soldiers will also be released May 14.  For the hardcore collector, the Japanese issues (on the Volcano label) of The One (Rabin) and I am Sam (Powell) feature different artwork, with the former looking much better than the standard US Varese release!  Finally, the DVD making of Metal Gear Solid II: Sons of Liberty features some footage with Harry Gregson-Williams.

April 2

Zimmer's score to Invincible has been postponed indefinitely by Milan America- more news to come.  Nick Glennie-Smith's score to We Were Soldiers also seems to have suffered the same fate (the album has one decent score cut though).  Klaus Badelt's score to The Time Machine has now been released to glowing reviews!

This might also be old news to some, but there is a complete score to Face/Off floating around, as well as some demo cues by NGS from The Rock (it seems he wrote an alternate main title- excellent theme!).  I neglected to mention these before because I was uncertain as to their legitimacy.  Please be wary of shoddy DVD/VHS-to-CDR hack jobs, because there seem to plenty of them circulating the market.  I might also add that quality complete/bootleg versions of: The Peacemaker, Detox, High Incident, and The Pledge are doing the rounds.  Oh, and don't ask- I don't have these!

February 23

Just saw Black Hawk Down last night.  The film is basically an extended fire-fight that goes on for the whole movie.  Great cinematography and editing; very little in terms of characters.  Hans' score works well- only one real heroic theme towards the end that sounded like a juiced-up version of music from The Thin Red Line.  In all, a serviceable score to an intense and moving experience- not a boring moment in the whole film.  Much better than Saving Private Ryan.

Purchasing Links have now returned!

In other news, Milan America will be releasing Hans Zimmer's score to Invincible (already available in Europe) on March 5.  There are 9 score tracks and two (classical) source music cues.  Full track list here.

The soundtrack world rejoices!  The latest Varese Club Soundtrack releases include Michael Kamen's score to Die Hard.  This is a limited release of 3000 copies- be quick with this one!  Now, where are those Barry scores Varese? (FYI- Barry is currently working on the stage musical Brighton Rock with lyricist Don Black).

February 14

Happy Valentine's Day to all!  Hope you all had the courage to *tell* that someone special :)  Of all the days of the year, Valentine's Day is the only truly universal day, because we all know what it feels like to love, and be loved.  How often can that be said about anything these days?  Best wishes to all.

In soundtrack related news, Hans recently performed selections from Black Hawk Down in Los Angeles on February 7 at the UCLA Performing Arts Centre at Royce Hall.

February 13

Oscar nominations have now been announced- unfortunately, no nods to Zimmer or the MV gang.  Here is a list of the nominees for Best Score (of the 5 scores, I'd have to say I enjoy Horner's A Beautiful Mind best- although, I think Howard Shore deserves the win):

Artificial Intelligence- John Williams
A Beautiful Mind- James Horner
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone- John Williams
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring- Howard Shore
Monsters, Inc.- Randy Newman

In other news, Varese Sarabande will be releasing Klaus Badelt's score to the remake of The Time Machine.  Trevor Rabin's score to Texas Rangers will also be coming soon from Supertracks (Supercollector).

February 7

Hot damn!  Spy Game was released in theatres last week- I still haven't seen the film, but I did manage to pick up Harry's incredible score.  For those who haven't heard HGW's score, this one's an absolute beauty- it's a mix between the addictive electronic loops and pulses in Enemy of the State, and the grand thematic gestures of Armageddon (as in HGW's unreleased score).  I was very surprised with this one- not many action scores hold up these days, but Spy Game just blew me out of my seat!  Decca also gives us a very generous 70 minutes of score- top marks to Harry and the folks at Decca, who are fast becoming the soundtrack label for the fans!  I might also add that the US Decca site have clips for every track of Lisa Gerrard's score to Ali.

February 3

Audio clips and track listing for Lisa Gerrard's new score to Michael Mann's Ali can now be found at the UK Decca site.  Also, the people at Decca have also posted the excellent liner notes to the Black Hawk Down score by Daniel Schweiger.  In further news, I made a mistake with the second volume of Metal Gear Solid II- this does not feature any of Harry Gregson-Williams' score.

February 1

English Zimmerphile Tim Cross reports that Harry Gregson-Williams and John Powell have been nominated for a BAFTA for their score to Shrek!  Also, two more Director's Cuts CD's have made their way on the market: Epic themes and Drama.  Visit this site for more details (note also, that these CD's are intended for industry professionals only!)

January 21

Another miss for Hans and Lisa- congratulations to Craig Armstrong for his Golden Globe win for Moulin Rouge.  Best song went to Sting for his song in Kate & Leopold

January 17

Reports are now filtering in about Zimmer's new score to Black Hawk Down- the film is receiving high praise, as is the score in context of the film.  Also, a different Oscar promo (longer than the 4-track promo that was previously available) for BHD has made its way onto ebay.  A few other goodies are up for sale there too, including the score promo to Ali.  Incidentally, I've just put up my own copy of the score promo to The Preacher's Wife for sale.

I might also add (although this may be old news to some), that Klaus Badelt has finished up scoring the remake of The Time Machine - teaser trailer can be found at http://www.apple.com/trailers

January 12

Sounds clips are now up for Black Hawk Down!  Also, someone over at the Movie Music message board posted a link to Nick Glennie-Smith's scoring sessions of We Were Soldiers, a new war film by Randall Wallace (who previously worked with Nick on Man in the Iron Mask).  Good to see Nick scoring a big assignment again.

January 9

Just got back from a trip to country Victoria- hope you all had a good New Year!  Anyway, nothing much to report except: it seems Lisa Gerrard did not co-score Black Hawk Down with Hans; rather, she contributes vocals to a track not composed by Zimmer.  Also, check out Hans' listing at IMDB- there are a few pictures of him at the Black Hawk Down premiere.  On the topic of BHD, the track listing for the score can now be found at the US Decca site (incidentally, a 4-track Oscar score promo for Black Hawk Down has become available).  Clips will be up any day now :)

In regards to John Powell's I Am Sam, be weary about the non-score album that is more widely available.  It doesn't seem to have any of John's score.  To conclude this update, a word about the film Rat Race: hilarious!  It's a bit slow to start off with, but when the laughs start kicking in, the film has you in stiches!!!  Cheers to Jerry Zucker for a great night out, and to John Powell for a zany score!

December 21

Congratulations to Hans (for Pearl Harbor) and Lisa (for Ali) for their Golden Globe nominations!  My vote for best song goes to "Come What May" from Moulin Rouge.  The cover scan for the score to Black Hawk Down (which has 15 tracks) can now be found at the US Decca website.  Further, the score to Ali will be released by Decca on February 12.  News, photos, and information about Lisa Gerrard can be found at her website

December 20

Merry Christmas to all!  I hope you all receive that score you were after, and perhaps even something more!  Best wishes, and I pray that you all had a good year- Alain Phomphoukhao (webmaster)

Added purchasing links for: Black Hawk Down (January 15), and the score to  I Am Sam (January 8).  Incidentally, for all the lucky ones with cable modems, a good place for theatrical trailers is http://www.apple.com/trailers

In other news, this might be old news to some, but two more Director's Cuts CD's have been released: Action and Romance.  In regards to bootlegs and unreleased scores, please by wary of a few floating around now.  Many traders don't list sound effects or quality of sound, so be sure to ask!  Quite a few so-called "complete" scores are fraudulent; they are simply DVD-to-CDR hack jobs by people trying to cash in on Media Ventures fame.

Also, a inquisitive "local" mind has caused me to rethink my FAQ!  I'll be adding some new material to it soon, so hopefully I'll never have to answer any e-mail queries again! :)  Thanks to Ralf for the heads up!

Finally, you've probably noticed how lazy I've been with the site.  I'll be uploading pages from my old site soon, so I guess things will be back to normal soon.  Cheers.

December 14

Upcoming CD releases: Black Hawk Down (Hans Zimmer & Lisa Gerrard/Decca/January 15), Ali (Lisa Gerrard & Pieter Bourke/Decca), and More Music from Metal Gear Solid II (Harry Gregson-Williams/Ark/January).

December 7

First, the world mourns the passing of George Harrison, former Beatle and solo artist.  My favourites by him included "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Here Comes the Sun," and "Something."  Rest in peace George; the world is a better place having heard your music.

Due to bandwidth restrictions, I've had cut down what was on the front page.  No news, except I just got my copy of Moulin Rouge on DVD!  This one's a beauty- get it if you haven't already.

December 3

Sheet Music links now added!  For those that have asked me before, the sheet music to Pearl Harbour is available from Hal Leonard publishing!  Also, a new score from John Powell to be released by Varese- I Am Sam.  This will be released on January 8, 2002.  John's a busy man!

November 26

Another CD to add to the discography: Harry Gregson-Williams score to Metal Gear Solid 2 (KMCA-127)- order this one now at CD Japan!  Also.. calling all Zimmer fans in France!  Can anyone help me out with some CD's available only in France?  I have a big collection of scores that I can trade- both unreleased and commercial.  Mail me here if you can help- merci beaucoup!

Some new reviews to come soon, including the various Media Venture samplers, and Zimmer's Wings of a Film.  Also, updating from the previous update, it is confirmed that a second volume of music from Moulin Rouge will be released- now that's something to be excited about!

November 13

Just a new CD to add to the discography: Hans Zimmer's score to Werner Herzog's film Invincible.  This one came out in the UK recently on the Milan label.  Order it at the Silva Screen site now!

November 12

Sorry for the lack of updates- finished my exams for the year only a week ago :)  Anyway, plenty to update.  You've all probably noticed the slight change in design- I thought it'd look a bit better than the rubbish I had before.  All new and upcoming items are listed below- support the site and pre-order through CDNOW, now!  Things of notice include a score release to Shrek, Metal Gear Solid II, and the US release of The Pledge.  New rave/dance remixes from Gladiator are also available.  Been a great year for MV, that's for sure!
